Vancouver “Ices” Trump Tower
The sleek, twisting 69-story Trump International Hotel and Tower in Vancouver, BC is set to host its grand opening, but faces a less-than-warm welcome. The brash and controversial brand of President Donald Trump is running up against a more conservative Canada.
Trump’s politics, especially on immigration, are extremely unpopular in Vancouver, a city that prides itself as diverse and progressive. As a result, public officials, such as the city’s mayor, are spurning the grand opening, protests are planned, and the Malaysian developer, Holborn Development, has regrets about the licensing deal that was signed prior to all the controversy erupting.
Located in an upscale section of downtown Vancouver, the tower is the second-tallest in the city and boasts majestic mountain and ocean views. The attention may be contributing to sales success though, as prices for the condos have soared to record levels.
