Valley Baptist Opens RGV’s First Micro-Hospital

Valley Baptist Health System, which operates full-service hospitals in Harlingen and Brownsville, TX, opened the Rio Grande Valley’s first micro-hospital. The 28,780-square-foot healthcare facility is at 1021 W. Interstate 2, in Weslaco, TX.

The facility has a full-service emergency department, consisting of 12 beds and two trauma beds, as well as eight inpatient beds. Other on-site services include a laboratory, pharmacy and imaging and respiratory services.

“Micro-hospitals can provide patients with more services than a freestanding emergency room, as well as offer the convenience of a higher level of care without having to go to an acute care hospital,” said Valley Baptist Health System’s Manny Vela, when construction began in January 2019. The health care system is planning more micro-hospitals throughout Texas.
