University of North Dakota to Vacate Buildings
The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks is readying to vacate and close up approximately a dozen buildings within the next few years. According to a 438-page master plan released by the school, the university currently has more space than it needs, and the buildings targeted for closure are in poor condition.
The report examines 70 state-appropriated buildings, finding that approximately 88% of them are more than 25 years old. Some moving between buildings could begin as early as fall, when the new School of Medicine and Health Sciences opens. It’s anticipated that all moves will be finalized by 2019.
The campus grew from 229 buildings in 2007 to 245 by December of last year. Those slated for closure represent 5% of the total.
