United Airlines Opts to Stay at Willis Tower
United Airlines will remain at EQ Office’s Willis Tower in a lease extension running through March of 2033. The airline will partner with the property’s ownership to transform its 850,000-square-foot headquarters.
“As one of the city’s largest private employers and its hometown airline, we are excited to deepen our roots here in Chicago while making the investments needed to reimagine the headquarters for our employees,” said United CEO Oscar Munoz.
At EQ Office, which is overhauling Willis Tower, SVP David Moore called United’s decision “a major win for Chicago.” He added that United’s investment in a modernized workspace “will support their growing business for years to come.”
The airline, represented by JLL in negotiations, had reportedly considered a move to one of the mega-projects currently on the drawing board. Jon Gray, president of EQ Office owner Blackstone, said United’s decision to remain was “a testament to our $500-million revitalization program.”
