U.S. Silica Pays $210M for NBR Sand Unit

U.S. Silica, headquartered in Frederick, MD, paid $210 million to acquire the NBR Sand Unit of New Birmingham, Inc. The regional sand mining company is in Tyler, TX. U.S. Silica Holdings produces commercial silica used in the oil and gas industry.

The Tyler plant at 905 Interstate 20 has an annual capacity of just over two million tons. The facility produces 40/70 Mesh and 100 Mesh silica sand used in hydraulic fracturing.

”The acquisition of NBR delivers on our strategic objective to diversify our mix of product offerings to better match evolving demand trends, while maintaining our competitive advantage of low cost production,” said Bryan Shinn, president and chief executive officer. Shinn added that the buy will help serve clients, especially those in the Permian Basin.
