TxDOT Looking to Expand Ports
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Commissioners are discussing port expansion throughout the state, the better to prepare for any changes in the North American Free Trade Agreement, or increased trade opportunities. Specifically, a Port Authority Advisory Committee reviewed, evaluated and identified potential projects throughout Texas’ port system, expected to cost $217 million.
In its recently released “Texas Ports 2018-2018 Capital Program Project Summaries” report, the committee studied Gulf of Mexico ports from the Port of Brownsville in the south to the Port of Orange in Southeast Texas. Specific project suggestions range from expanding rail services at the Ports of Corpus Christi, Brownsville and Beaumont, to repairing roads and improving drainage at the Port of Galveston.
The report is developed and issued bi-annually, in conjunction with the meeting of the Texas legislature.
