TxDOT Awarded $50M to Beef Up Permian Basin Roads

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded its Texas counterpart $50 million in federal grants to pay for connectivity and safety improvements in the Permian Basin. USDOT’s grants come courtesy of its Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) program.

The Texas Department of Transportation will use the money to improve roads in Winkler, Glasscock and Reagan County, among others.

The Permian Basin of West Texas has been booming in recent months and years, due to increased energy activity. Water, sand, equipment and large trucks are causing significant damage to the roads, creating safety issues for drivers. In an attempt to counteract this damage, TxDOT plans to invest in 1,700 miles of Permian Basin roads over the next decade through its Unified Transportation Program.
