TRYP Hotel to Open in Newark

A new TRYP Hotel by Wyndham is on track to open in downtown Newark this summer.

The new hotel will have 100 rooms renting for average of $130 to $140 a night, a discount of nearly half, compared to New York City hotel rooms. Workers are now renovating the old, 150-room Carlton Hotel, built in the 1920s, that had closed in 2011.

Other developments in downtown Newark include a new Whole Foods Market in the old Hahne’s department store on Broad Street, across from Military Park. Newark will also get its first new high-rise apartment building in 40 years when Dranoff Properties completes its $116 million plan to build a 22-story luxury apartment building across the street from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
