Truck Stop to Drive onto Greenspoint Mall Acreage

Spring Real Estate Investments LLC, led by Zulfiqar Karedia, acquired 22 acres at Greenspoint Mall, which was the site for a 314,000-square-foot Macy’s building and parking lot. The site, which fronts Interstate 45 just north of Houston’s CBD, will be used for a 17,000-square-foot truck stop and retail space. The Macy’s store closed in early 2017.

The 1.4-million-square-foot Greenspoint Mall, at Interstate 45 and Beltway 8, declined over the years after being a powerhouse when it first opened in the mid-1970s. Global Plaza Unit recently agreed to acquire the mall from Triyar Cannon Group. The Greenspoint submarket experienced a huge blow when Exxon Mobil vacated 2 million square feet of office space to relocate to a new campus close to The Woodlands, TX. The mall is viewed by many to be a key to turning around the area.
