State to San Antonio State Hospital: Here’s $11M, Add More Beds
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has released details about a renovation that would add 40 beds to the San Antonio State Hospital, the metro’s largest mental health hospital. Specifically, the HHSC will issue $11 million to the organization, to help convert a vacant building into a new facility.
The renovation is step one in an overall $47.5 million plan to create a new campus that will replace existing buildings at 6711 S. New Braunfels Some of the facilities date back to the 19th century. Though the HHSC hasn’t finalized the renovation design, a spokeswoman told the San Antonio Express News that construction could begin in early 2019 and be completed by early 2020.
