Sprint Seeks to Shrink Kansas City HQ Footprint in Sale-Leaseback

Sprint plans to unload its suburban Kansas City headquarters campus and lease back a portion of the four-million-square-foot property. Employees will be consolidated into fewer buildings at the Overland Park site, where it already leases out roughly one million square feet to other tenants. Sprint partially occupies 11 of the 17 office buildings on the campus.

The plan was shared by CEO Michel Combes in emails to employees and Kansas City leaders, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. He wrote, “Because we no longer need all our buildings, we are also exploring an option to sell the campus and lease back only the buildings we need. This would enable us to use the proceeds from the sale to reinvest in the spaces we do use.”

The company plans to make 6200 Sprint Parkway the “heart” of the campus, and involve WeWork in a renovation campaign that would also include an innovation hub.
