SMG Takes Over Arena Management from AEG
The City of Ontario changed management companies at the city-owned Citizens Business Bank Arena. Pennsylvania-based SMG Worldwide took over management of the $150-million venue from AEG, whose agreement was ended two years early.
SMG also manages the Ontario Convention Center and has boosted tourism in the region. Attendance at existing city events has increased, and SMG has hosted new events that have generated positive economic impacts.
Cost efficiency is expected as a result of one firm managing two city-owned facilities. SMG plans to share administrative functions and staff, as well as hopes to generate synergies between the facilities.
AEG will also continue to have its Ontario Reign hockey team play at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The 11,000-seat arena was built in 2008 on 37-acres where Ontario Motor Speedway once stood.
