Shah Alam to Lead Fairstead’s Management Platform

Shah Alam has joined Fairstead as president of Fairstead Management, which oversees the management of approximately 12,500 apartments owned by the Midtown-based firm. The move comes as Fairstead aims to acquire 5,000 units annually, with the goal of bringing the total number of apartments under management to 25,000 by 2023. Alam previously served as SVP at Related Management Company.

A veteran of more than 28 years in multifamily, Alam has managed more than 110,000 apartments across the U.S. He joins the company during a period of rapid growth.

At Related, Alam supervised the operations of approximately 18,000 apartments across the company’s portfolio. Prior to joining Related, Alam was EVP at Edgewood Management, Inc., where he oversaw a 32,000-unit portfolio, including 27,000 affordable apartments.
Alam got his start in multifamily at AIMCO, where he held various positions and managed more than 60,000 apartments all over the country during his tenure there.
