Seritage, Tucker Plan Resi Use for Galewood Sears

A partnership of Seritage Growth Properties and Tucker Development has won Chicago Plan Commission approval for a plan to redevelop a former Sears store in Galewood. The partners want to convert the property to rental apartments over ground-floor retail.

With an estimated investment of $117 million, the team plans to build 313 residential units on the northeast corner of North and Harlem avenues, and an adjacent site at 7141 W. Wabansia Ave. that had provided parking for the old store, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The proposal for the site, just inside the Chicago city limits, now goes to the City Council for final approval. The Seritage-Tucker partnership has also won approval to build more apartments along with 18,000 square feet of retail across the street in Elmwood Park, IL.

Chicago officials said the developers would provide an estimated $1.2 million to the city’s affordable housing fund to support construction elsewhere.
