Seniors Complex Opens on Far South Side

Local and regional leaders joined MR Properties, LLC Tuesday for the grand opening of the 134-unit Montclare Senior Residents of Calumet Heights. Part of the redevelopment of a formerly vacant site at 94th and Stony Island, $38.4-million project at 9401 S. Stony Island Ave. will provide mixed-income housing for independent seniors 62 years of age and older on the city’s far South Side.

The Chicago Housing Authority’s (CHA) Property Rental Assistance program has provided subsidies for 34 of the 101 one-bedroom units to support tenants from CHA waitlists.

“The investment in housing means that Chicago seniors are able to remain in the community of their choice,” said Tracey Scott, CEO of the CHA.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority provided federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits that generated $16.9 million and Illinois State Donation Tax Credits that generated an additional $549,000 to help fund the project.
