SDSU Nearing End Zone for New Mission Valley Stadium Location
The city of San Diego is on track to sell 135 acres of its Mission Valley stadium site to San Diego State University. The update comes a month after City Council voted unanimously to move the deal to the purchase-and-sale-agreement for SDSU’s offer to pay $88 million for the land and complete development in time for the 2022 football season.
As part of the proposed purchase plan, the university expects to build the housing portion of its development in four phases, starting with 900 market-rate units and 100 subsidized units, according to materials recently shared with the city attorney.
“SDSU is setting aside the 10 percent of affordable housing to be built on-site, as opposed to (paying an) in-lieu fee,” Gina Jacobs, VP of SDSU’s Mission Valley project, told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
