Scheels Announces 300K-SF TX Sporting-Goods Store

Scheels, which owns and operates a chain of sporting-goods superstores in 12 states, will develop a 300,000-square-foot center on the 400-acre Grandscape, in The Colony, TX. Steve M. Scheel, CEO of the North Dakota-based company, said Texas has been on the radar for 10 years. The store in the far-north Dallas suburb will be the company’s largest yet.

Construction is anticipated to launch in 2018, with completion slated for 2020. Special store attractions will include a 16,000-gallon aquarium, a 65-foot high Ferris Wheel, and a restaurant, fudge and gelato stores.

Grandscape is located on SH 121, and includes a 500,000-square-foot Nebraska Furniture Mart, which opened in spring of last year. Berkshire Hathaway owns the property.
