San Antonio Zoo Unveils Concepts for Planned Expansion
The San Antonio Zoo revealed concept art for potential attractions and exhibits that could make up part of its $200-million master plan. The plan allows for a 20-year build-out, with concepts including “World of Birds” (set within trees), “Riverwalk” (a woodland setting with otters and bears) and “Bush Trail,” (a red, scrub-brush field housing kangaroos and birds).
Zoo CEO Tim Morrow indicated that his staff spent more than a year working on the master plan, which is based on recent improvements to the facility. During the past five years, more than 100 habitats have been upgraded, at a $5 million cost. The most recent habitat expansion was the rhino exhibit, which will connect to the zoo’s zebra and giraffe environment.
Zoo officials said there isn’t a timeline yet in place for the future renovations or new installments.
