Road Extension Could Spur Chicago-Area Project
A proposed $6.6-million project to extend 191st Street, in Tinley Park, IL to connect with Oak Park Avenue, could be the impetus behind a larger retail development.
Inter-Continental Real Estate and Development Corp. owns 100 acres nearby at Harlem Avenue, north of Oak Park Avenue, and the land owner has reportedly been in discussion with a shopping center developer. To that end, the village of Tinley Park, a suburb of Chicago, will pay $290,000 for three acres, owned by Inter-Continental Real Estate, to push through the road extension.
According to village mayor Dave Seaman, the road extension likely will not get underway until some time in 2017. He added that getting the roadway completed was essential to getting the retail project launched.
