Rig Count Creeps Up at Eagle Ford
The operational rotary oil rig count continues ticking up just south of San Antonio at Eagle Ford Shale, according to data released by Baker Hughes. As of April 21, 2017, the rig total was 71, an increase from 68 the week before. Along with 7 gas rigs in operation, the total for the basin is 78.
The count is a definite increase from the week of April 22, 2016, during which Eagle Ford Shale had 35 operating oil rigs and 5 operating gas rigs, for a total rig count of 40.
According to the Eagle Ford Shale News, the total rig count actually broke 90, making it up to 93, total. The publication counts all rigs, not just rotary rigs. The Eagle Ford Shale Play runs across a 30-county area in South Texas, passing just south of Bexar County.
