Resilience Project Starts on Coney Island

Construction has started on a $90 million Hurricane Sandy recovery and resiliency project at Coney Island Houses in Brooklyn.

“There is a tremendous amount of  Sandy recovery work underway to restore and protect our buildings,” said Michael Kelly, general manager for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)

This is the ninth major public housing recovery and resiliency project to move forward, thanks to the largest grant ever awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), of $3 billion, to repair and protect 33 Hurricane Sandy-Damaged NYCHA developments.

By the end of the year, work should be underway at all Sandy-impacted developments.  Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast United States, Canada and the Caribbean in October 2012.
