Renovations Launched on Vintage Motis Building

Renovations have started on a 30,000-square-foot downtown Abilene building, which once was home to S.H. Kress and Levine’s department stores. The structure at 202 Pine St., known as the Motis Building, will contain Grain Theory, a brew pub, along with offices and boutique retail stores. Building co-owners Tiffany and Daniel Guitierrez indicated that the building, which came on line in the 1950s, could be situated on the first commercial lot sold in Abilene.

Upgrades to the gutted building include a new façade, as well as the addition of larger windows and interior renovations including reinforced floors to accommodate brewing tanks on the second floor. The Guitierrezes are also planning to create a shade-covered sidewalk with entrances, and views to a boutiques and restaurants. The rehab is scheduled for completion in fall 2019.
