REI Backfills Sports Authority Space at Burbank Empire Center
Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI) signed a 43,000-square-foot, 10-year lease at Burbank Empire Center in Burbank, CA. CBRE’s Geoff Martin and Ryan Burnett represented both the landlord, Principal Real Estate Investors, and the tenant.
The location at 1800 West Empire Ave. will be REI’s first flagship store in Los Angeles County. REI will occupy the entire freestanding former Sports Authority building located at the entrance to the shopping center.
“Given that Burbank Empire Center is the dominant power center in the San Fernando Valley, we had a lot of interest in this former Sports Authority space,” said Martin. “The ownership realized the value of the REI brand, and the foot traffic they will create for the rest of the shopping center.”
The 618,582-square-foot power center is undergoing a major remodel in anticipation of REI’s opening in late August of this year.
