Redevelopment Planned for Hartford CBD

The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts is collaborating with the city of Hartford, the Capital Region Development Authority and two state agencies to redevelop a three-block area between Washington and Hudson Streets in downtown Hartford, CT. Kicking off the proposed development will be a $205 million makeover of the State Office Building, located across the street from the performing arts center.

Bushnell has been pushing to create housing, restaurants and bars near the state capitol, to keep people in the CBD after performances. This past spring, the Bushnell and the CRDA financed a $100,000 study by the National Development Council, which will determine what development combination will make the most sense. The study will also determine how best to structure a public-private partnership to pay for the project.
