Redevelopment on the Menu for Former McDonald’s HQ

Hines plans to redevelop part of the former McDonald’s campus in Oak Brook, IL, which the fast-good giant recently vacated for global headquarters in downtown Chicago. Crain’s Chicago Business reported that McDonald’s will sell the site of McDonald’s Plaza, a 349,000-square-foot office building just east of the Oakbrook Center mall, to Hines in a deal arranged by JLL.

Plans call for tearing down McDonald’s Plaza, which was built in 1972, and creating a “new village center” there for the Village of Oak Brook, said Hines’ Greg Van Schaack. The Houston-based owner-developer is expected to seek the village’s approval to build residential, office, hotel and retail space on the site.

“Hines is a world-class, institutional developer, and we have the utmost confidence that they can deliver on an exceptional vision for the Plaza site and the residents of this outstanding community,” said Joe Endres at McDonald’s.
