Qualcomm Layoffs Total 1,314 Local Workers

Qualcomm in San Diego County will reportedly begin layoffs starting November 20 that will impact 1,314 employees.

The Qualcomm layoffs will hit about 10 percent of the chip maker’s workforce in the area. Several months ago, the company said it would cut 15 percent of its global staff, about 4,500 workers, in efforts to increase profits. The Qualcomm layoffs will reportedly reduce the firm’s costs by $1.1 billion annually starting next year.

Qualcomm informed the California Employment Development Department of the cutbacks earlier this week.
