Q4 Wage Growth Remains Steady at 3.2%

Wage growth for U.S. workers increased by 3.2%, year over year in Q4 2019, according to the ADP Research Institute Workforce Vitality Report. The average wage level increased by $0.88 to $28.93 per hour.

“The final quarter of 2019 was marked with a slight deceleration in job growth, and wage growth was unchanged,” said ADP Research Institute’s Ahu Yildirmaz. “Wage growth for holders and entrants decelerated, whereas switchers experienced acceleration.”

Earlier in 2019, job holders, job switchers and entrants experienced wage growth of 5% and higher. However, by the end of the year, job holders experienced a 4.5% wage growth, while entrants stood at 4.9% growth, with job switchers coming in at 5%.

While wage growth across industries had been clustered between 3.5% and 4.5% for much of the year, by the end of the year, resources and mining wages were a weak performer with wages falling from the previous year.
