Q&A: Catching Up With Bohler’s Joel DelliCarpini
After announcing a rebrand earlier this month that included dropping the word engineering from its title, Bohler is heading into 2020 with renewed purpose. The land development consulting and design services firm, which counts 26 offices across the U.S., is taking on all types of projects, from retail and industrial to data centers and high-end sports training centers.
We caught up with Joel DelliCarpini, a Principal in Bohler’s Atlanta office, to chat about what lies in store for Bohler in 2020 and beyond.
Q: Bohler is so diversified in terms of the types of projects you are working on right now. Do you think that being this diverse gives you a competitive advantage in the industry?
A: Absolutely, but not as one might imagine. It certainly helps us to maintain steady workload and a balanced local and regional practice, which is an attractive choice to a wide variety of owners and developers. More importantly, it’s great for our employees, who learn and grow faster and more effectively through exposure to diverse project types. I also think our clients like the variety of relationships, strategies and opportunities our diverse expertise brings to their projects and businesses.
Q: You are obviously working on a lot of different projects at once, but is there one project you’d like to highlight? Is there a noteworthy project that you think other CRE professionals would find intriguing?
A: This is a tough one. There are many that give me great pride, where our team has solved difficult challenges to make projects successful. A recent one sticks out because it was so aligned with our purpose at Bohler. We empower the ambitious to become the accomplished – and we recently had the chance to help a family transform their daughter’s passion for the game of soccer into a world-class complex for indoor and outdoor soccer training, practice and competition. They came to us with a vision and leaned on us to build the development team and project plan to make their vision a reality. You can read more about Westside Woods here.
Q: What is your outlook going forward? Do you anticipate 2020 to be as busy as 2019 was for Bohler? What about 2021?
A: Our year-end discussions with clients and partners tell us 2020 will be another strong year in Atlanta and the Southeast. We are particularly bullish on industrial activity based on manufacturing demand in the region, as well as the continuing evolution of retail, which holds tremendous opportunities for adaptive reuse, infill and redevelopment. We feel we are well-positioned to continue our growth in the coming years.
