Proposed Alamo Plaza Restoration Moves Forward

The San Antonio City Council approved the concept for a seven-year master plan that aims to reinstate Alamo Plaza to its former status as a pedestrian destination.

The restoration could translate to the partial closure of some streets, the repair of a centuries-old church and the redevelopment of three nearby buildings into a museum.

Opponents of the plan note disapproval of the early renderings, and of the proposed relocation of the Alamo Cenotaph monument. Supporters point to historical authenticity and visual enhancements. Several local officials back the plan, but urge consideration of community input.
