Prologis Building Mega-Warehouse for Amazon in Mexico
Prologis is developing a one-million-square-foot warehouse for Amazon.com near Mexico City, as the giant online retailer seeks to boost its footprint in Mexico’s burgeoning e-commerce sector. The new facility is being built in partnership with Fibra Prologis in the Tepotzotlan municipality, roughly 25 miles north of the Mexican capital, and is expected to deliver next year.
The facility would triple Amazon’s distribution space in Mexico, from two current distribution centers totaling more than 500,000 square feet that are located in Cuautitlan Izcalli. All three facilities are along the “NAFTA” highway, an industrial corridor that runs through Mexico’s factory regions to the U.S. border
Amazon says its expansion in Mexico is an effort to increase product offerings, offer faster deliveries, and make the purchasing process as smooth and secure as possible to allay consumer concerns about ordering online.
