Practice Facility Plans Submitted – Will The Chargers Charge North?

Since 1961, San Diego has been home to the Chargers. But, by January 15 of next year, a decision must be made on whether or not the team will relocate to Los Angeles to share a stadium with the Rams.

Although the Spanos family is “officially” still contemplating the move, the ownership has reportedly already submitted plans to the city of Santa Ana for a practice facility with two football fields along a five-acre parcel of land, in addition to an office complex across the street.

The fields and related team facilities would be built on a vacant lot at the intersection of Susan Street and Lake Center Drive. The Segerstrom Company owns the office building and land parcels.

Chargers officials say 25 percent of the team’s ticket sales comes from the Los Angeles-Orange County market. If they relocate, the Chargers will reportedly owe the NFL $65 million in relocation fees annually for the next decade.
