Portland’s Lower Albina on Track for Affordable Housing

A 0.67-acre development site located in Portland’s Lower Albina neighborhood between North Flint and North Wheeler avenues is soon to become an affordable housing development. To that effort, Kidder Mathews brokers Clay Newton, Jordan Carter and Tyler Linn assisted in connecting owners Betsy and Rich Reese with Edlen & Company to oversee the development. Kidder Mathews made the connection because this type of project would require an experienced team to bring multiple agencies to the table.

In 2017, community leaders started Albina Vision Trust (AVT), the group coordinating plans to develop the housing and a community theater on the property. AVT’s mission is to restore the historic Portland neighborhood’s cultural heritage and add affordable housing.

The development plans include a seven-story building with 120 housing units for families with income between 30 and 60 percent of the area’s median income. The adjacent community theater will serve artists, youth and creatives, and prioritize art and cultural heritage.
