Port Slowdown a Question Mark for Economy
For the first time in a decade, import traffic was reportedly down in September and October at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, as well as the leading facilities in New York and New Jersey.
These major nationwide ports experienced a 10-percent drop in the last two months in a period generally known as the peak shipping season. There are fears that the port slowdown is an indicator of more economic trouble to come.
On the other side of the coin, there is good news. Overall imports at the nation’s busiest ports are reportedly up four percent for the first 10 months of this year, as compared to last year.
