Port of L.A. Getting Major Upgrade
The Port of Los Angeles is getting a $67-million upgrade that will upgrade berths at its Yusen Terminals. The berths will be deepened by as much as 53 feet depending on their current depth status.
The facility will also have additional cranes added, and rail capacity will be added to some of the port’s decks, increasing capacity there by 25 percent.
The upgrades will be able to handle ships that carry 13,000 containers. Right now, the maximum load that comes in totals 8,500 containers.
The hope by port management is that this will make the Yusen area more competitive.
