Plans Changed for Hudson’s $900M Downtown Detroit Development

Connect Apartments is planned for September 28th in Los Angeles. Here’s where to get more information and register.

Bedrock LLC updated its redevelopment plans for the former J.L. Hudson site in downtown Detroit. The revised design includes 240,000 square feet of office space, 330 apartments, 100,000 square feet of retail, as well as 120,000 square feet of event space and roughly 90,000 square feet of exhibition and skydeck space.

Previous versions of the project called for 275,000 square feet of office and 250 apartments. The vacant two-acre Hudson block is now envisioned to be developed with two buildings, rather than one.

The residential tower is now planned to exceed 800 feet (previously 734 feet), and the cost has grown to roughly $900 million (previously $775 million). Construction is still slated to begin in December 2017, but the developer is requesting the Downtown Development Authority board for an extension beyond December 2020 to deliver it.
