Planned Apartments Now Slated for Hotel

San Antonio developer Samuel Panchevre wants to convert four floors of office space at the Aztec Theatre building into 55 hotel rooms. The move is an about-face for owner Panchevre, who had originally envisioned the building at 104 N. St. Mary’s St. as an apartment property.

In 2015, Panchevre, in partnership with 210 Development, had indicated the plan to renovate the building into 41 apartment units, the first to be created in the CBD since 2008. However, since that time, two apartment buildings have been planned within a couple of blocks of the theater. Panchevre also said he wants to put a restaurant on the building’s roof, as part of the renovations.

The developer acquired the 90-year-old building from Baron Theo Bracht of Belgium in 2014.
