Optimus Ride Introduces Self-Driving Service to Navy Yard

Autonomous vehicle company Optimus Ride is introducing what’s reportedly New York State’s first commercial self-driving service. Starting Wednesday, six autonomous vehicles will provide transportation to and from the NYC Ferry stop at the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Dock 72 development.

The vehicles are expected to transport 500 passengers per day, and more than 16,000 passengers per month. The system will run on a continuous loop between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on weekdays between the dock and the Navy Yard’s Cumberland Gate. Initially, there will be a safety driver and software operator in the vehicle while in operation.

“Optimus Ride will be another great way for our tenants to get around the campus, and another reason why more and more creative professionals are increasingly looking to come to the Brooklyn Navy Yard,” said Michael Rudin of Rudin Development, which is developing Dock 72 in partnership with Boston Properties.
