Open House Chicago Tour Goes Virtual for 2020
The Chicago Architecture Center’s (CAC) 10th annual Open House Chicago tour of the city’s distinctive neighborhoods has switched up its format for its 10-day run (Oct. 16-25) this year. The 21 neighborhoods covered by this year’s tour, which is free to participants, run the gamut across the city as well as its suburbs, with a special emphasis on the South and West Sides.
The CAC says the reformatted festival accommodates both online and outdoor participation to allow for social distancing. The Open House itineraries for 2020 will focus “less on specific sites and more on larger themes—forgotten or under-celebrated architects, how community areas develop specific architecture styles, and important places for understanding the city’s history,” according to the CAC.
Although visitors are prohibited from entering participating sites, the CAC says the new OHC 2020 mobile app will offer location-based experiences to enhance any site.
