Ollie’s Bargain Arrives to Backfill Toys R Us Stores

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, a brick-and-mortar discount retailer, entered Texas by opening in a former Toys R Us space in Mesquite, TX, a suburb of Dallas. The Harrisburg, PA-headquartered company operates 285 stores in 22 states, and is planning two more stores in East Texas, as well as taking space in a former Toys R Us store in Lewisville, TX.

The Mesquite store is on Town East Blvd. Ollie looks for spaces ranging from 30,000-35,000 square feet, and it prefers to lease, though has made opportunistic purchases of 12 Toys R Us locations in summer 2018.

Ollie spent approximately $70 million to purchased branded toys from Toys R Us suppliers, who were left with excess inventory following the toy retailer’s bankruptcy reorganization and liquidation. The retailer also offers housewares, non-perishable foods, books, stationery, floor coverings and health and beauty aids.
