Obama Center Will House Chicago Public Library Branch
In a pair of firsts, the Chicago Public Library will open a branch at the future Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park. It will be the first public library at a presidential center, and the Obama Center will be the first with a public facility rather than one operated by the National Archives.
“When designing the campus of the Obama Presidential Center, we’ve listened to what those in the community most want and set out to offer something for everyone,” said Robbin Cohen, executive director at the Obama Foundation.
Plans call for a 5,000-square-foot CPL branch, rent-free for seven years, to be embedded within a 50,000-square-foot structure that will be one of the four main buildings proposed for the Obama Center campus. With a series of federal review still to come, the Obama Center complex is aiming for a 2021 opening.
