Obama Center Road Cost: $175M
The controversial plans to close and dig up Jackson Park roads around the Obama Center in Chicago will cost about $175,000, city officials said.
The city seeks to close portions of Cornell Drive and Marquette Drive, as well as a small portion of South Midway Plaisance east of Stony Island Avenue. Among the plans for the closed roadways is the merger of Jackson Park and South Shore Park golf courses, as well as creating pedestrian walkways and bike lanes.
One plan is to swap six acres of parkland that the Obama Center needs to widen parts of Lake Shore Drive and Stony Island for the eight acres from closing the roadways.
Opinions about road closures and Obama Center development will take place Feb. 27 at McCormick Place, conducted by The Obama Foundation, and at a symposium March 7 at 1020 E. 58th St., organized by opponents of the center.
