North Texas Twisters Ramp Up $2B in Losses

The nine twisters roaring through North Texas on Sun., Oct. 20 created widespread damage, especially one, ranked an EF-3, that tore from northwest Dallas to suburban Richardson, TX. And, according to the Insurance Council of Texas, the storms left behind about $2 billion in insured losses, making the storm the costliest weather event in North Texas’ history.

Camille Garcia, with the Insurance Council of Texas, told the Dallas Morning News that, in addition to leveling homes across the area, the storms led to a great deal of property damage. She indicated the commercial damage was one reason why the storms were more expensive than the tornadoes that hit Rowlett and Garland, TX in 2015. That tornado generated $1.2 billion in damage.
