New Mega-Project Set to Take the Stage in March

While city officials consider the future of the Lincoln Yards and 78 mega-projects, another large-scale development is waiting in the wings. Crain’s Chicago Business reported that a group led by Wisconsin developer Bob Dunn will formally introduce a plan next month to build a mixed-use project over 34 acres of Metra Electric rail tracks and storage facilities west of Soldier Field.

The multi-billion-dollar project would result in a mix of residential, office and retail space, Crain’s reported. It would have the involvement of local developer Gerald Fogelson, who built the massive Central Station residential complex nearby, and who acquired air rights to build over the tracks more than 20 years ago.

Fogelson reportedly hoped to develop the air-rights property himself and sought a partner as late as 2015, Crain’s reported. Now, though, the baton will be handed off to a group known as Landmark Development, with Dunn in the lead.
