New Jersey Joins Competition to Lure New Amazon HQ

The area around a massive redevelopment of an historic World War II shipyard in South Kearny, NJ has joined Brooklyn and a host of other cities in the race to become home to the new “second headquarters” planned by technology giant Amazon.

Kearny Point is a $250-million redevelopment that will eventually include more than four million square feet of creative office space (pictured). It is located  between Newark and Jersey City, and surrounded by sites that could make up an integrated campus of more than 500 acres, with 225 acres of land available for immediate redevelopment.

“Particularly for companies that have multiple core functions, the campus has the versatility to offer a single location for office, light manufacturing and logistics,” said Michael Meyer, director of development for Hugo Neu, in a conversation with Connect Media.

Over 100 businesses have leased nearly all of the the 200,000 square feet of space at Building 78, Kearny Point’s first phase, in less than 24 months.
