New Braunfels Ponders $100M Master Plan

In an effort to encourage more development in New Braunfels, north of San Antonio, the city council hired two firms to develop plans it hopes will attract more than $100 million in private development. The New Braunfels City Council has approved $299,425 to San Antonio-based Douglas Architects for a master plan of the current existing city government complex. The council will also pay $47,000 to retain the services of Walker Parking Consultants to develop a downtown parking management study.

The targeted area consists of acreage on the eastern edge of New Braunfel’s downtown. The city controls 6.7 acres; adding in the adjacent Union Pacific underutilized rail yard, the total is 9.8 acres. The city is requiring that the plan include a select-service convention hotel, to complement the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center at 375 S. Castel Ave. Other than that, the city is open to suggestions.
