NBCUniversal’s 930K-SF Campus Gets Underway on Backlot
Los Angeles County’s film studios have invested in new production and office space, particularly as the rise in streaming services has amplified demand for scripted content. With those space requirements increasingly in the forefront, a 930,500-square-foot campus on the NBCUniversal backlot was cleared for construction in late 2020.
The office development is set to go up near the intersection of Universal Hollywood Drive and Lankershim Boulevard on a site previously consisting of small production facilities and undeveloped land. The project is scheduled for completion in 2023 and was approved as part of the NBC Universal Evolution Plan in 2013.
The NBCUniversal office project is an 11-level cast-in-place concrete structure consisting of 323,000 square feet of office space and an 80,500-square-foot employee center. Interior improvements are to include general office space, food service, conference facilities and exclusive screening rooms, along with a 600,000-square-foot eight-story parking structure for 1,269 vehicles, according to Hathaway Dinwiddie.
House & Robertson Architects and LEVER Architecture are the design firms working on the project.
