NAIOP SoCal UCLA vs USC Real Estate Challenge Site Revealed

Celebrating the popularity of the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans rivalry, the NAIOP SoCal UCLA vs. USC Real Estate Challenge will be held on November 21 at the Omni in Downtown Los Angeles. The annual competition features five-member graduate student teams from the Ziman Center of Real Estate at UCLA’s Anderson School of Business (pictured above) and the Lusk Center at USC’s Marshall School of Business and Price School of Public Policy (pictured below) who compete head-to-head in a real estate competition to determine the highest and best use for a unique parcel of land.

The student teams will present their proposed plan for a 15-acre site in Orange County located at Beach Blvd. and Katella Ave. in Stanton, CA. The site is owned by ORCO Block & Hardscape. The student teams will craft a redevelopment plan that maximizes long-term economic benefits of the site for the family members and owners of ORCO, while accomplishing the goals of the city of Stanton of increasing and diversifying revenues to the city and creating areas for high-quality jobs, retail and housing.

NAIOP SoCal Real Estate Challenge Chair and Senior Vice President with Madison Marquette Mark Mattis says, “This site is perfect for our student teams. It provides a wide array of options for them to consider – which is the purpose of this event. With the Real Estate Challenge we can give the students a unique real world challenge with access to some of the industry’s top leaders. I look forward to their presentations on this historic manufacturing site.”

A panel of high-profile commercial real estate leaders will award points on the student teams’ written and oral presentations to determine the winning idea. The student teams will also present their concepts to the audience during the November 21 event. The winning school receives bragging rights and the coveted Silver Shovel.
