Mount Prospect Retail Site Faces Traffic Concerns
A developer wants to build a retail center on the former Mitchell Buick site at 801 E. Rand Rd. in Mount Prospect, but residents are concerned about the added traffic it would bring.
Speed-GMX Mount Prospect LLC is planning to build a Texas Roadhouse restaurant, AAA auto repair outlet, The Tile Shop and a fast-food restaurant on the 5.25-acre site. The center could add $250,000 in sales and food/beverage taxes and $160,000 in property taxes to village and school district coffers.
The Rand Road land is between E. Thayer and E. Henry streets, and across from Mount Prospect Plaza. Homeowners west of the site are worried that traffic using Henry Street to enter the center would result in more vehicles in the neighborhood.
The village plan commission advised approving the project without Henry Street access. The developers are against that idea. Village trustees will decide the issue.
