Montecillo Shifting to Single-Family Houses

The Montecillo Smart Growth community, located in West El Paso, is moving into developing single-family houses, following more than four years of apartment construction. Forty-seven houses are planned for acreage off Montecillo Drive, in the center of the 229-acre community. A 106-unit townhouse complex will also be built near the single-family area.

Montecillo is El Paso’s first Smart Growth community, a $700-million development containing 4,500 residents of various types, along with restaurants, offices, stores and entertainment. EPT Land Communities is overseeing the development, which follows a concept that concentrates housing types into a walkable neighborhood that avoids sprawl.

Also under development is the Montecillo Town Center. A $15.7-million Topgolf complex is planned, as is a space for a possible hotel near Interstate 10.
