Microsoft Announces $23M Charlotte Expansion

Microsoft Corp. has announced plans to expand its engineering and quantum computing businesses in Charlotte. The software maker plans to hire new workers in Charlotte as part of a $23 million expansion. The move is expected to create 430 new jobs by 2023.

The company currently has 1,400 employees in North Carolina and 1,150 in Charlotte. Average salaries for the new positions could reach $99,000.

Microsoft could receive $8.5 million in state incentives if it meets job creation and investment goals over time. A North Carolina state panel awarded an incentives deal to the Washington-based company shortly before the Charlotte expansion was announced.
